Ziauddin University Convocation 2018

Ziauddin University awarded 504 degrees to its graduating students of different disciplines at its 15th convocation held at the Expo Centre here on Wednesday.

Addressing the students, Sindh Governor Muha­mad Zubair, the chief guest on the occasion, emphasized the importance of quality education and praised the efforts of university chancellor Dr Asim Hussain for the institution.

Karachi – January 9, 2018: Ziauddin University organized a Commencement Day ceremony for the Ziauddin College of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences Batch – XI

Chief Guest of the event Ameena Saiyid, Managing Director, Oxford University Press in Pakistan said that “Communication is very essential in current situation without communication it is impossible to resolve issues and I am confident that after completing your studies all of you will go out and contribute your part for our society and communicate with them”.

While addressing the Orientation Day ceremony as a Guest of Honor Sheema Kermani, Social Activist, Theater Director and an exponent of Bharatnatyam dance said Music and Art regenerate the brain cells and make us feel relaxed. That’s why people in west consider it as a therapy. Unluckily we do not have such facilities in our country for disabled people.

She directly talked to the students and said “Take all your talent to small towns where people are poor and not educated enough to understand about these type of speech and hearing issues so go and help them out”.

Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim, Vice Chancellor, Ziauddin University welcomed the new batch and said that in Pakistan there are more than 23 million children who have communication disability and total number of therapist for this problem is not even 100. I am feeling proud for you all to choose this specific area”.

Earlier, Ms Amina Siddiqui Principle of ZCSLHS Clifton campus in her welcome address appreciated the students of the11th batch of ZCSLHS and wished them good luck for their future educational journey.

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation Therapy

CSLHS has extended in-house Neuromuscular electrical stimulation therapy for patients with dysphagia at the DZH with Ms Maha Khalid and Ms Amina Siddiqui.

Amina Siddiqui and Maha Khalid qualified from CIAO – US, for NMES through Vital Stim Therapy for Dysphagia, on 14th November 2016, and commenced speech and swallow clinic at the DZH on 3rd January 2017.

The Learning Tree Visited Ziauddin University

On 14 September 2017 the students (fourth graders) of THE LEARNING TREE visited ZU Anatomy and Forensic departments for better learning of human anatomy/ human body systems. They were absolutely fascinated to visit the anatomy museum it strengthened the knowledge they already had and also gave them an opportunity to clarify any misconceptions.
The finger printing activity was also a lot of fun for them.
The Learning Tree staff and administration extended their thanks to the departments for such hospitality.

College Of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences Commences Lsvt Loud Treatment

LSVT LOUD is an evidence based therapy for idiopathic Parkinson’s and is known to benefit 51% of patients having Dysphagia as a co-morbidity. It is also known to help adults as well as children having voice impediments of neurogenic origin.
Lee Silverman Voice Treatment of LSVT LOUD commences at the CSLHS in Clifton, through Amina Siddiqui who is an LSVT LOUD certified speech language therapist, after completion of training at the Columbia Teacher College, New York.

Department Of Student Affairs Organized Azadi Futsal Tournament

Department of Student Affairs organized Azadi Futsal Tournament to mark the 70th Independence Day celebrations. The event was planned and executed by ZLCS. 8 Teams across the university participated in the event. 4 teams qualified for the semis. The Doom Squad and Afridi bros were the favorite teams which met in the semi-finals. HamdoonAsim of Doom Squad led the team to finals. Final was played between Doom Squad and Anzal& boys. After having tough competition Doom squad managed to win the tournament. The players thanked Dept. of Student Affairs and ZLCS on arranging the event.

Summer Camp For Children

The College of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences – Ziauddin University has been organizing an Inclusive Summer Camp for children 4;0 to 6;0 since Summer 2016 where qualified Speech-Language Therapists work with children to enhance and stimulate their language and literacy skills through many different fun activities including, arts and Crafts, multimedia and aerobics. They also work on children social skills through social stories and different role play activities.

Ms. Samina Masood is a professional psychologist who is associated to Therapy Works, Nursing School of Indus Hospital and Ziauddin College of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences. She is a visiting faculty at ZCSLHS as a student advisor and counselor.

As per the decision of the academic council she has been promoted to the position of Assistant Professor. We Congratulate Ms. Samina and wish her success in her future endeavors.

College Of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences Awarded International Certification In Vitalstim Therapy

The Speech and Language Pathologists from ZCSLHS Ms. Amina Siddiqui, Ms. Maha Khalid, Ms. Misha Irshad and Mr. Ali Punjani got recognized as internationally trained VitalStim Therapist in Pakistan.

VitalStim Therapy is a specialized form of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) designed to treat swallowing disorders through muscle re-education.

The VitalStim Therapy System is a non-invasive, external electrical stimulation therapy approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2002 for the treatment of dysphagia with application on the anterior neck.

Ali Punjani and Misha Irshad also have certification for NMES through Vital Stim CIAO from Malaysia, making a total of 4 Speech language clinicians certified for NMES Vital Stim therapy for dysphagia by 3rd April 2017.
